Systems and methods are provided for timing of a plurality of imaging observation elements based on a volume of interest (VOI). One system includes a first imaging element configured to generate a first observation of a first object, wherein the first observation is generated at a first time, and the first object is associated with a volume of interest (VOI). A second imaging element is configured to generate a first observation of a second object, the first observation of the second object generated at a second time, wherein the second object is associated with the VOI. The system is configured to determine a first positioning of the VOI based on the first observation of the first object and the first observation of the second object, determine a plurality of imaging times for the first imaging element to generate a plurality of additional observations of the first object.
