The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for determining a drowsy state of a vehicle driver. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for determining the drowsy state of the vehicle driver, which is conducted by the apparatus for determining the drowsy state of the vehicle driver, comprises the following steps of: calculating a normal drowsy index, which is a reference for determining a drowsy state, when the vehicle is normally driving, by learning driving patterns of the driver in a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction； collecting the driving patterns of the driver in a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction, when the vehicle is currently driving, to calculate a current drowsy index, which shows drowsy characteristics of the current driver, to analyze the current drowsy index calculated based on the calculated normal drowsy index, and to determine the drowsy state of the driver； and generating a drowsy driving warning to the driver when the driving pattern of the driver is determined as a drowsy driving. The present invention aims to provide a method and apparatus for determining the drowsy state of a vehicle driver, which are able to determine drowsy driving without an additional machine apparatus, and generate a warning.본 발명의 차량 운전자의 졸음상태 판단 방법 및 장치에 관한 것으로, 본 발명의 일 실시 예는 졸음상태 판단 장치에 의해 수행되는 차량 운전자의 졸음상태 판단 방법에 있어서, 정상 주행시, 운전자의 종방향 및 횡방향의 주행패턴을 학습하여 졸음상태 판단의 기준이 되는 정상 졸음지수를 산출하는 단계, 현재 주행시, 운전자의 종방향 및 횡방향의 주행패턴을 수집하여 현재 운전자의 졸음 특성을 나타내는 현재 졸음지수를 산출하고, 상기 산출된 정상 졸음지수를 기초로 상기 산출된 현재 졸음지수를 분석하여 상기 운전자의 졸음상태를 판단하는 단계, 및 상기 운전자의 주행패턴이 졸음운전으로 판단되면, 상기 운전자에게 졸음운전 경고를 발생시키는 단계를 포함한다.
