The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of lyophilized 2 - [(3-aminopropyl) amino] ethanethiol, comprising the following steps: a) reacting a solution of amifostine with a strong acid to obtain a solution of 2 - [(3-aminopropyl) amino] ethanethiol, and b) lyophilization of the 2 - [(3-aminopropyl) amino] ethanethiol solution, with or without the addition of excipients.a presente invenção refere-se a um processo para a preparação de 2-[(3-aminopropil)amino]etanotiol liofilizado, compreendendo as seguintes etapas: a) a reação de uma solução de amifostina com um ácido forte, para obter uma solução de 2-[(3-aminopropil)amino]etanotiol, e b) a liofilização da solução de 2-[(3-aminopropil)amino]etanotiol, com ou sem adição de excipientes.
