PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an ultrasonic image displaying connection of puncture needles intelligibly.SOLUTION: A candidate point of a puncture instrument such as a puncture needle is extracted from an ultrasonic image, and the candidate point is subjected to Hough transformation, thereby generating a straight line representing the puncture instrument and an extension line of the puncture instrument. Further, a region including the generated straight line representing the puncture instrument and the extension line of the puncture instrument is specified as a puncture instrument present region, and the position of the tip of the puncture instrument is specified based on the distribution of intensity of the candidate point of the puncture instrument in the puncture instrument present region, thereby specifying the position of the puncture needle in the ultrasonic image.
