PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface sheet for an absorbent article which gives excellent wearing feeling by suppressing the contact between a liquid and a skin from the time of excretion.SOLUTION: A vertically-long surface sheet 1 constituting an absorbent article includes a rugged surface in which a projecting part and a recessed part are arranged in one of surfaces, and the periphery of the projecting part is enclosed by the recessed parts. When a pressure of 5 kPa is applied while a skin surface E of a wearer is brought into contact with the rugged surface, a liquid diffusion path 80 continuing in a plane direction between the skin surface E and the rugged surface is provided. In the rugged surface constituting the liquid diffusion path 80, the vicinity of a contact surface 33 with the skin surface E in the application of the pressure is a hydrophobic part 81 that has hydrophilicity lower than a part below the vicinity of the contact surface. In the surface sheet 1 for an absorbent article, the liquid diffusion path 80 has a penetration channel that does not overlap with a line connecting apexes 31 in the longitudinal arrangement of the projecting parts 3 in a longitudinal direction, and an embossed part 41 and a non-embossed part 42 are arranged in a bottom part 43 of the recessed part 4 constituting the liquid diffusion path 80.
