The present invention relates to Lactobacillus plantarum PNU (KCCM11352P) or Leuconostoc mesenteroides PNU (KCCM11353P) which is a novel starter strain and a use thereof. The novel strain according to the present invention has excellent anti-oxidant, anti-obesity, and anti-cancer activities. When a fermented foods is produced using the same as a starter strain, the produced food has excellent functionality and quality, and the number of lactobacillus contained in the food is increased. Accordingly, the strain of the present invention can be usefully used as an intestinal drug, a probiotic, a food additive, and an anti-cancer agent.본 발명은 신규한 스타터 균주인 락토바실러스 플란타룸(Lactobacillus plantarum) PNU (KCCM11352P) 또는 류코노스톡 메센테로이드(Leuconostoc mesenteroides) PNU (KCCM11353P) 및 이의 용도에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 상기 신규한 균주는 항산화 활성 및 항비만 활성이 우수하고 항암 활성이 우수할 뿐만 아니라, 이를 스타터 균주로 사용하여 발효식품을 제조할 경우, 제조된 식품의 관능미 및 품질이 우수하고, 식품 내 함유된 유산균수를 증가시키는 효과가 있어, 정장제, 생균제, 식품첨가제 및 항암제의 용도로 유용하게 사용할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
