PURPOSE: A composition containing plant extract or sesquiterpene compound isolated from the plant extract is provided to selectively control microalgae and to reduce side effects. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing microalgae contains one or more compound containing sesquiterpene compounds of chemical formulas 1-5 or plant extract. The plants are Atractylodes chinensis root, Curcuma aromatic root, Piper nigrum fruits or mixture thereof. The extract is isolated using (C1-C5)alcohol, hexane, ethyl acetate, acetone, methylene chloride, ethyl ether or mixture thereof.본 발명은 아트락틸로이데스(Atractylodes) 속 식물, 피퍼(Piper) 속 식물, 커큐마(Curcuma) 속 식물 및 이들의 혼합물로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 식물을 용매로 추출하여 제조된 식물 추출물 또는 이로부터 분리 동정된 세스퀴터펜계 화합물을 함유하는 미세조류 방제용 조성물 및 이를 이용한 미세조류의 방제방법에 관한 것이다.본 발명에 의해 조성물은 방제에 있어서 서로 다른 반응성을 보여 방제하고자 목표하는 미세조류를 선택적으로 제어할 수 있다. 그리고 혼합조합에 따라 각각의 단독처리보다는 혼합 처리 시 활성이 상승되기 때문에 적은 량의 투입이 가능하여 환경에 미치는 부작용이 보다 경감될 것으로 여겨지며, 우수한 살조활성이 유지되기 때문에 경제성도 양호해질 것이다.
