PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily remove an endoscope from the inside of a subject when a position detecting means for detecting a rotating position of a rotary shutter breaks down during an examination.
SOLUTION: A light source unit 12 is equipped with a light source 51, the rotary shutter 53, a motor 54, a motor driver 55, a position detector 56, and a controller 57 for controlling them. Light emitted from the light source 51 is emitted to the inside of the subject through an optical fiber 37, an emission lens 36, and an emission window 31. The controller 57 is equipped with a synchronous processing circuit 61 and a failure detecting circuit 62. When a position detecting signal of the rotary shutter 53 that the position detector 56 detects is not detected for a prescribed period of time, the failure detecting circuit 62 outputs an abnormal detection signal. The controller 57 controls the rotation of the motor 54 in a manner to make a rotational period of the rotary shutter 53 different from a period for outputting a read-out pulse when the abnormal detection signal is output from the failure detecting circuit 62.
