A method of real-time plant selection and removal from a plant field including capturing a first image of a first section of the plant field, segmenting the first image into regions indicative of individual plants within the first section, selecting the optimal plants for retention from the first image based on the first image and the previously thinned plant field sections, sending instructions to the plant removal mechanism for removal of the plants corresponding to the unselected regions of the first image from the second section before the machine passes the unselected regions, and repeating the aforementioned steps for a second section of the plant field adjacent the first section in the direction of machine travel.L'invention concerne un procédé de sélection et d'élimination de plante en temps réel d'un champ de plantes consistant à capturer une première image d'une première section du champ de plantes, à segmenter la première image en régions indiquant des plantes individuelles dans la première section, à sélectionner des plantes optimales à conserver dans la première image sur la base de la première image et des sections de champ de plantes précédemment éclaircies, à envoyer des instructions au mécanisme d'élimination de plante afin d'éliminer les plantes correspondant aux régions non sélectionnées de la première image dans la seconde section avant que la machine ne passe aux régions non sélectionnées, et à répéter les étapes susmentionnées pour une seconde section du champ de plantes adjacente à la première section dans la direction de marche de la machine.
