PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice-like food product which offer fewer calories, has a texture similar to rice, and additionally, melts as little as possible upon cooking rice, and to provide a production method of the rice-like food product.SOLUTION: The rice-like food product in the form of rice is obtained by reacting a sol solution in which starch and an alginic acid or its salt are dissolved to water with multivalent cation to obtain a gel, and drying the gel.
