A synergistic antimicrobial composition comprising, consisting essentially of, or consisting of:a. at least one monoalkyl glycerol ether of formula Iwherein any one of R1, R2 and R3 is a branched or unbranched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C24 alkyl group and the other of R1, R2 and R3 are each hydrogen； andb. at least one nonionic surfactant having an HLB value of from about 6 to about 24； wherein the composition is free of bispyridiniumalkanes.
