The bottle gourd extract promotes the activities of an enzyme for keratotic plug decomposition. The enzyme is Cathepsin V, which is a cysteine protease whose localization in the keratotic plug has been revealed by the protein analysis of keratotic plug. The activities of the enzyme exert advantageous effects on, for example, the acceleration of decomposition of horn plug, the suppression of formation of horn plug, and the improvement of conspicuity of the pores.
