PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antibacterial composition. A storage stable composition for generating antibacterial activity is described. The composition comprises an enzyme capable of converting a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide, and a crude natural substance such as honey containing a substrate for the enzyme. In a particular embodiment, the enzyme is a purified enzyme. In other embodiments, the substrate is free of catalase activity and the enzyme is present in crude natural material and is capable of converting the substrate to release hydrogen peroxide. It is additive to enzyme activity. The storage stable composition described above does not contain enough free water for the enzyme to convert the substrate. Described are microbial infection treatment and wound treatment applications of the above compositions, and methods of making the above compositions.
