Class 30 [Also in Group, XXIII] A flower-gatherer and pruner comprises a stem 7, secured to a hand-grip 21 and to a fixed blade A, and a rod 11, 11a running along the stem and connected to an operating lever 29 and carrying a transverse pin 10 guided in a slot 8 in the fixed blade and passing through an oblique and preferably curved slot 9 in a movable blade B pivoted on the blade A, the blades having holding surfaces extending along and behind their cutting edges to grip a cut stem. The parts 11, 11a of the rod are connected by a threaded collar 15, a volute spring 18 bearing on a guide bush 16 and on the collar to automatically open the blades. The blade A has a serrated face 34 which seats against a face 38 of a block 37 secured to the blade B to grip a stem severed by the cutting edges. The head 32 of a pivoted retaining catch 30 engages a cavity in the handle to hold the blades closed.
