PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To isolate and identify a gene involved in the redifferentiation ability of a plant, to provide the gene, and to provide a method for using the same. SOLUTION: An isogenic line introduced into the culture characteristics of Konanso is created by backcrossing. Cultured cells are derived from the thus created isogenic line and the parent variety. After confirming the redifferentiation ability of the cultured cells elapsed 3-6 months after culture, isolation of the gene which is not expressed in cultured cells derived from Sasanishiki and Koshihikari( each being a kind of rice native to Japan ) but expressed in the aforementioned cultured cells derived from Konanso and the isogenic line and having high redifferentiation ability is tried using a differntial display method, resulting in cloning the objective redifferentiation-associated gene.
