PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake mechanism capable of easily and repeatedly attaching/detaching a wire to and from a brake arm, and to provide a wheel chair equipped with the brake mechanism.SOLUTION: A brake mechanism for braking a main wheel by operating an operation lever includes a brake body, a brake arm which is pivoted on the brake body for rotation and is energized in non-braking direction, a wire which connects the operation lever to the brake arm, for rotating the brake arm in braking direction being interlocked with the operation lever, and a wire support arm which is separated from the brake arm and fixed to the brake body, for supporting the wire. An engagement groove is cut on the brake arm and an engagement part radially protrudes from the wire. The engagement part is engaged with the engagement groove so that the wire is connected to the brake arm.
