PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve touch feeling of a leg gather, air permeability, and absorbency of a liquid.SOLUTION: An absorbent article comprises a pair of liquid impermeable side sheets 40 at both left and right sides on a skin facing surface side of a liquid permeable top sheet 20. The side sheet 40 has a joint area 42 joined to the skin facing surface of the top sheet 20, and a standing area 43 positioned at the inner side in a width direction from the joint area 42. At least a part of the standing area 43 is a free portion 43a not joined to the top sheet 20. One or a plurality of solid gather elastic members 50 are fixed to the free portion 43a. The top sheet 20 has extension parts 21 extending widely toward left and right outer sides in the width direction from the joint areas 42 of the side sheets 40.
