PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a living body examination apparatus capable of judging the properties of biological tissue with high precision within a short time, and a living body examination method.SOLUTION: The living body examination apparatus 10 is equipped with a characteristic value acquiring part 11, a learning part 12, a judging part 13 and a display part 14. The characteristic value acquiring part 11 acquires the characteristic value related to the secondary light generated in the biological tissue when the biological tissue is irradiated with measuring light with a wavelength range of 1,400-2,250 nm. The learning part 12 learns the properties of the biological tissue on the basis of the characteristic value, which is obtained by the characteristic value acquiring part 11 with respect to each of measuring points when a large number of measuring points of the biological tissue known in properties are irradiated with the measuring light, by a support vector machine.
