SOLUTION: The method for suppressing acidity of vinegar or vinegar-containing food and drink includes addition of &gamma-nonalactone. Preferably the method for suppressing acidity of vinegar or vinegar-containing food and drink includes addition of &gamma-nonalactone to have a concentration of &gamma-nonalactone contained in vinegar or vinegar-containing food and drink in use of 40-900 ppb.
