The invention relates to a method for obtaining a fuel from plant seeds or nuts that are rich in fat preferably jatropha seeds with a fat content of at least 30 wt.% preferably at least 40 wt.% having the following steps: a) removing shell portions b) comminuting the shelled seeds c) adding water and/or acid to the comminuted plant seeds thereby forming a suspension that contains oil d) separating crude oil from the suspension the pH value of the suspension being <= 3.5 prior to separating the crude oil e) polishing the oil or crude oil f) neutralization g) drying the oil and optionally h) drying the de oiled shred.
