Self-healing and recovery of Gelatin-Ionic Liquid, lonogel The present invention relates to preparation of a new thermoreversible ionogel through the gelation of gelatin B in an ionic liquid, (l-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride [C2mim][Cl]) and its rapid recovery after its mechanical incision. Ionogel underwent self-healing at temperatures lower than its gelation temperature after destruction of the gel network. The self-healing hydrogel binds, and forms a bond strong enough to withstand repeated stretching and eliminates the need of cross linkers.
