FORMULA BASED ON POLYMETHACRYLATE CHARGED WITH ESSENTIAL OIL NANOPARTICLES OF THYMUS VULGARIS AND ITS USE AS EDIBLE COATINGS IN FRUIT AND VEGETABLE PRODUCTS.
The present disclosure is related to the formulation of biodegradable edible coatings as a novel natural storage alternative to make it possible to lengthen the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. A polymethacrylate-based coating is disclosed, which is a highly resistant and biodegradable polymer used for the sustained release of active principles into which essential oil nanoparticles of Thymus vulgaris are incorporated, which is also a low cost product, a powerful antioxidant and a natural antimicrobial that significantly improves the quality and shelf life of the treated fruits and vegetables, since this coating is maintained for a longer period of time and released in a sustained manner.En el presente proyecto se plantea la formulación de recubrimientos biodegradables comestibles como una nueva alternativa de almacenamiento natural que haga posible alargar la vida de anaquel de frutas y hortalizas. Se considera el desarrollo de un recubrimiento a base de polimetacrilato, el cual es un polímero altamente resistente y biodegradable utilizado para la liberación prolongada de principios activos al cual se le incorporan nanopartículas de aceite esencial de Thymus vulgaris (tomillo), el cual es un producto de bajo costo, es un potente antioxidante y antimicrobiano natural que mejora notablemente la calidad y vida de anaquel de las frutas y hortalizas tratadas, al mantenerse integro en la cubierta por mas tiempo y liberarse de una manera prolongada.
