A plant material comprises a genomic nucleotide sequence encoding a SUSIBA2 orSUSIBA2-liketranscription factor under transcriptional control of a promoter active in theplant material. The genomicnucleotide sequence encoding the SUSIBA2 or SUSIBA2-like transcription factorlacks at least a portion ofan activation region of a SUSIBA1 or SUSIBA1-like promoter present in anintron of a wild-type version ofthe genomic nucleotide sequence encoding the SUSIBA2 or SUSIBA2-liketranscription factor. The plantmaterial has a controlled production of carbohydrates, in particular starch orstarch and fructan. Inparticular, the plant material can be designed to produce carbohydrates atenhanced levels.
