PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a culture soil for growing seedlings, having light weight facilitating the transportation, and self-holding power to prevent the breaking down at transplantation, providing good transplantation operability, allowing the plant after the transplantation to be grown well, and not requiring frequent watering, and to provide a method for planting cuttings of vegetables by using the culture soil. SOLUTION: The culture soil for growing the seedlings is obtained by adding a water-soluble binder of 1-15 pts.wt. and a water-insoluble water-absorbing polymer of 0.5-10 pts.wt. to peat-moss and/or coco-peat of 100 pts.wt. as the total, further adding water in an amount of 400-1,200 pts.wt. as the total water content, and mixing the resultant product. The method for planting the cuttings of the vegetables includes adding the water in an amount required for forming 700-1,200 pts.wt. total water content to the culture soil and stirring and mixing the product again to afford slurry, flowing the resultant slurry into a container for growing the seedlings to fill the container, leaving the container for 3-5 hr to afford a solid culture soil containing the water by draining the excessive water, and planting the cuttings of flowering plants or vegetables in the resultant culture soil.
