A dentifrice composition is described comprising a source of free fluoride ions； and from 0.1% to less than 0.5% by weight of the composition of a copolymer of methyl vinyl ether with maleic anhydride or acid； and wherein the composition has a slurry pH from 6.0 to 7.5, and wherein the composition is free of a carboxylic acid or alkali metal salt thereof wherein the acid is selected from the group consisting of malonic acid, glutaric acid, tartaric acid, lactic acid and mixtures thereof. The composition enhances fluoride uptake into teeth and provides protection against acidic challenges.L'invention concerne une composition de dentifrice comprenant une source d'ions fluorure libres； et de 0,1 % à moins de 0,5 % en poids de la composition d'un copolymère d'éther méthylvinylique avec de l'anhydride ou de l'acide maléique； et la composition ayant un pH de suspension de 6,0 à 7,5, et la composition étant exempte d'un acide carboxylique ou d'un sel de métal alcalin de celui-ci, l'acide étant choisi dans le groupe constitué par l'acide malonique, l'acide glutarique, l'acide tartrique, l'acide lactique et leurs mélanges.
