The procedure consists of selecting an area (10) for planting and setting bags (20) filled with soil in the ground, placing each bag in a hole made as the soil is extracted to fill it. A young plant (40) is set in each bag and reared until it is required for lifting, together with the bag, which is made from non-woven jute fibres and thin plastic film. The planting area can be covered with a of mulching film layer (38) and the positions of the bags indicated by markers (36) prior to planting. The procedure can be carried out by a tractor-towed machine with implements to dig holes and fill the bags with soil.
