In particular, the method involves reacting an isohexide stereoisomer with a Bronsted base and an alkyl species. The resultant mono-ethers can serve as attractive antecedents or chemical scaffolds for making a derivative compound, such as various amphiphiles with potential uses as surfactants, dispersants, and lubricants, among others.
