PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a healthy and palatable pet food formulated with ingredients in good nutrition balance and its production method.SOLUTION: Provided are pet food prepared as follows: a food pellet 4 containing reducing sugar is prepared by using an extruder, then subjected to drying, coating with a first fat/oil, baking under far infrared irradiation in oven 2 provided with a ceramic heater 1 to generate pyrazines in the pellet, and coating with a second fat/oil for impregnation, where the amount of the first fat/oil added is 0.5-8.0 wt% of the total weight of the food pellet material mixture, the first fat/oil and the second fat/oil, and the sum of the first and second fat/oil added is 5.0-13.0 wt% of the total weight.【課題】栄養バランスの良い原材料を配合し、ペットの健康に配慮し、ペットの食いつきが優れたペットフード及びその製造方法の提供。【解決手段】エクストルーダにて造粒した還元糖が含まれるフード粒４を乾燥処理し、第一の油脂をコーティングした後セラミックスヒーター１を備えた炉２内にて遠赤外線を照射してフード粒を焼成し、フード粒中にピラジン類を生成させ、続いて第二の油脂をコーティングしフード粒に含浸させる際、第一の油脂の添加量は、フード粒原材料の混合物、第一の油脂及び第二の油脂を合わせた総重量の０．５～８．０重量％であり、第一の油脂と第二の油脂を合わせた添加量は、総重量の５．０～１３．０重量％であるペットフード及びその製造方法。【選択図】図１
