PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protector which reliably prevents blood adhered to a needle point from scattering when covering the needle point of a used puncture instrument.SOLUTION: The protector 1 is used by attaching to the puncture instrument 10 equipped with a needle tube, a hub provided on the proximal end side of the needle tube, and a tube 17 which is connected to the proximal end part of the hub and communicates with the needle tube through the hub. The protector 1 is equipped with an outer cylinder 2 which is provided to move along the tube 17 in the longitudinal direction and has a fixing means for fixing the outer cylinder relative to the puncture instrument 10, an inner cylinder 3 provided to move in the longitudinal direction relative to the outer cylinder 2, and an operation means for operating to move the inner cylinder 3 between a first position in which the inner cylinder 3 is housed in the outer cylinder 2 and a second position in which the inner cylinder 3 moves in the direction of the distal end from the first position to protrude from the outer cylinder 2.
