Disclosed is a tablet splitting device that results in a low unevenness of the weight of tablet cut fragments even with a simple advancing/retracting blade. The tablet (10) to be split is held at a cutting position by a holding mechanism (30). When the tablet (10) is cut by reducing the facing gap between a pair of opposing blades (41, 42) that advance towards and retract from the cutting position, the holding of the tablet by the holding mechanism (30) is continued until the tablet (10) is pincered by the pair of opposing blades (41, 42) of a cutting mechanism (40). Once the tablet (10) is pincered by the pair of opposing blades (41, 42), the holding of the tablet by the holding mechanism (30) is disengaged, and the tablet (10) is held only by the pair of opposing blades (41, 42). By cutting the opposing blades (41, 42) into the tablet (10) after the holding of the tablet by the holding mechanism (30) is disengaged, bending and multiplication of the crack (11) arising where the opposing blades (41, 42) cut in are suppressed.
