PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tablet splitting device that results in low variation in the weight of tablet cut pieces even with a simple advancing/retreating blade.SOLUTION: A tablet 10 to be split is held in a cutting position by a holding mechanism 30, and a facing clearance between facing blades 41, 42 advancing toward and retreating from the cutting position is reduced to cut the tablet 10. At this time, holding of the tablet 10 by the holding mechanism 30 is continued until the tablet 10 is held by the facing blades 41, 42 of a cutting mechanism 40. Once the tablet 10 is held by the facing blades 41, 42, holding of the tablet by the holding mechanism 30 is released to hold the tablet 10 only by the facing blades 41, 42.
