PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin external preparation having excellent usability and excellent ability to release an oil-soluble active ingredient to the skin.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a skin external preparation having a thixotropy of greater than 4.0. The preparation comprises carboxyvinyl polymer, which may be alkyl-modified, and/or a salt thereof and a nonionic surfactant. Preferably, the preparation comprises an oil-soluble active ingredient, and more preferably the preparation is in the form of an emulsifying agent.
