The present application is related to methods and compositions for thetherapeutic and diagnostic use in the treatmentof diseases and disorders which are caused by or associated with amyloid oramyloid-like proteins including amyloidosis, a groupof disorders and abnormalities associated with amyloid protein such asAlzheimer's disease. The present application provides novelmethods and compositions comprising highly specific and highly effectiveantibodies having the ability to specifically recognizeand bind to specific epitopes from a range of .beta.-amyloid proteins. Theantibodies enabled by the teaching of the present applicationare particularly useful for the treatment of diseases and disorders which arecaused by or associated with amyloid or amyloid-likeproteins including amyloidosis, a group of diseases and disorders associatedwith amyloid plaque formation including secondaryamyloidosis and age-related amyloidosis including, but not limited to,neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
