The present invention is related to methods and compositions for thetherapeutic and diagnostic use in the treatment of diseases and disorderswhich are caused by or associated with amyloid or amyloid-like proteinsincluding amyloidosis, a group of disorders and abnormalities associated withamyloid protein such as Alzheimer's disease. The present invention providesnovel methods and compositions comprising highly specific and highly effectiveantibodies having the ability to specifically recognize and bind to specificepitopes from a range of .beta.-amyloid proteins. The antibodies enabled bythe teaching of the present invention are particularly useful for thetreatment of diseases and disorders which are caused by or associated withamyloid or amyloid-like proteins including amyloidosis, a group of diseasesand disorders associated with amyloid plaque formation including secondaryamyloidosis and age-related amyloidosis including, but not limited to,neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
