PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of metering gas quantity adapted for the need for a respirator.SOLUTION: According to the method of controlling the respirator for high-frequency artificial respiration, including an expiration valve 3, a through value 36 is decreased step by step from a precontrolled through-start value with a first step width 42, and the load status 37 of the expiration valve 3 is detected to monitor the fact that the load status 37 of the expiration valve 3 exceeds a first threshold 44 in this case. When the load status 37 of the expiration valve 3 exceeds the first threshold 44, the further decrease in the through value 36 is stopped to monitor the fact that the load status 37 of the expiration valve 3 exceeds a second threshold 54.
