The present invention is made for the prevention of ketosis or minimizing the effects of ketosis in ruminant animals. This purpose is achieved by feeding to the animal biotin in combination with a mixture of at least two essential oil compounds selected from the group consisting of thymol, eugenol, meta-cresol, vaniline and guajacol. The present invention is useful because it is capable of preventing and/or inhibiting ketosis of calving ruminant animals and the subsequent need for veterinary treatment. In a preferred embodiment of a feeding concept for dairy cattle, especially calving dairy cattle, biotin being used in an amount sufficient to provide a daily dosage of 10 mg to 20 mg per head to which it is to be administered. It is at present contemplated that the essential oils are administered in amounts (total dosage ranges of essential oils) of 1 to 1.5 g per head per day.La présente invention concerne la prévention de la cétose ou la réduction au minimum des effets de la cétose chez les animaux ruminants. Ce but est atteint par lalimentation des animaux en biotine en combinaison avec un mélange dau moins deux composés dhuiles essentielles choisis dans le groupe constitué par le thymol, leugénol, le méta-crésol, la vanilline et le guajacol. La présente invention est utile car elle peut prévenir et/ou inhiber la cétose danimaux ruminants qui vêlent et le besoin subséquent dun traitement vétérinaire. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré dun concept dalimentation pour le bétail laitier, en particulier le bétail laitier qui vêle, la biotine est utilisée en une quantité suffisante pour fournir une posologie quotidienne de 10 mg à 20 mg par tête à laquelle elle est administrée. Il est à présent envisagé que les huiles essentielles soient administrées en des quantités (plages de dosage total dhuiles essentielles) de 1 à 1,5 g par tête et par jour.
