PURPOSE: A defrosting operation controlling method of a kimchi refrigerator capable of improving the freezing performance is provided to reduce the power consumption for the defrosting operation. CONSTITUTION: A defrosting operation controlling method of a kimchi refrigerator comprises the following steps: integrating the driving time of a compressor when powder is applied to the refrigerator； setting the defrosting cycle longer than the preset standard cycle after the power application, for performing an initial defrosting process by the driving time of the compressor； shortening the defrosting cycle as the driving time of the compressor passes(S20, S30)； and performing the defrosting operation by the preset standard cycle when the defrosting cycle of the initial defrosting process is shorter or the same with the preset standard cycle(S40).본 발명은 전원이 인가되면, 압축기의 운전 시간을 적산하는 단계, 전원이 인가된 후, 제상 운전의 주기를 기 설정된 기준 주기 보다 길게 설정하여 누적된 상기 압축기의 운전 시간에 따라 초기 제상 운전을 수행하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
