Disclosed is a walking assistance device and an operation method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the walking assistance device comprises: a detection part collecting information on movement of a user, a moving path, a walking pattern, a walking speed, and a surrounding environment； an operation part providing power to at least one of wheels； and a control part creating a profile based on the collected information and controlling the operation part based on the user profile. According to the present invention, by applying the information on the surrounding environment, it is possible to effectively avoid obstacles nearby.본 발명은 보행 보조 장치 및 그 구동 방법을 개시한다. 본 발명의 일실시 예에 따른 보행 보조 장치는 사용자의 움직임, 이동 경로, 보행 패턴, 보행 속도 및 주변 환경에 대한 정보를 수집하는 감지부； 복수의 바퀴들 중 적어도 하나에 동력을 제공하는 구동부； 및 상기 수집된 정보에 기초하여 사용자 프로파일을 생성하고, 상기 사용자 프로파일에 기초하여 상기 구동부를 제어하는 제어부를 포함한다.
