THE PRESENT INVENTION PROVIDES A METHOD OF SYNTHESIZING HYDROXYAPATITE (HA) USING UNWANTED SHELL WASTE MATERIAL SUCH AS CORALS, EGG SHELLS, CLAM SHELLS, COCKLE SHELLS, MUSSEL SHELLS, OYSTER SHELLS AND OTHER TYPES OF MOLLUSC SHELLS. IN THIS METHOD, COLLECTED SHELLS ARE CLEANED AND GRIND INTO POWDER. THE FINE POWDER IS THEN DISSOLVED IN SOLUTION OF HYDROCHLORIC ACID (HCI) WITH DISTILLED WATER TO PRODUCE A SOLUTION. THIS SOLUTION IS THEN MIXED WITH AN ALKALINE SALT SOLUTION CONSISTING OF AMMONIUM PHOSPHATE (NH4)2HPO4 AND 25% LIQUID AMMONIA WITH DISTILLED WATER. THE THOROUGHLY STIRRED MIXTURE WILL THEN BE IRRADIATED IN MICROWAVE OVEN FOR VARIOUS DURATION TO FORM SUPERNATANT AND PRECIPITATE, WHERE THE SUPERNATANT IS THEN REMOVED AND THE PRECIPITATE IS DRIED AND GRIND INTO POWDER. THIS POWDER IS THE FINAL FORM OF THE HA SYNTHESIZED WHICH MAY BE USE AS BONE FILLERS OR FOR BIO-CERAMIC COATING.
