PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radical generator and a nitrogen oxide generator capable of generating a large amount of radicals or nitrogen oxide while suppressing generation of arc discharge, and efficiently utilizing the generated radical or nitrogen oxide.SOLUTION: The radical generator includes a fan 10 for supplying air to a discharge area 4 for applying a high frequency voltage to a discharge electrode 2 and causing the discharge electrode 2 to generate discharge. In relationship between a flow velocity value of the air supplied to the discharge area 4 and a supply amount of the radical being supplied to the downstream side of the discharge area 2 by the fan 10, values of the radical supply amount and the air flow velocity value when the radical supply amount decreases from a peak value caused by increase in the air flow velocity value and transitions to a steady state are each defined as thresholds. The flow velocity value of air supplied to the discharge area 4 by the fan 10 is set to the air flow velocity which is smaller than the threshold of the air flow velocity value and which is the air flow velocity at the time when the radical supply amount becomes larger than the threshold of the radical supply amount.COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT【課題】アーク放電が生じることを抑制しつつ多量のラジカル又は窒素酸化物を生成でき、生成したラジカル又は窒素酸化物を効率良く利用できるラジカル発生装置及び窒素酸化物発生装置を提供する。【解決手段】高周波電圧を放電電極2に印加して放電を生じさせる放電領域4に空気を供給するファン10を備える。放電領域4に供給される空気の流速値と、ラジカルがファン10によって放電領域2より下流側に供給される供給量との関係において、空気流速値の増加に伴ってラジカル供給量がピーク値から低下して定常状態に移行したときにおけるラジカル供給量及び空気流速値の夫々の値を閾値とする。ファン10によって放電領域4に供給される空気流速値を、空気流速値の閾値よりも小さく、ラジカル供給量がラジカル供給量の閾値よりも高くなるときの空気流速値に設定する。【選択図】図1
