PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nitrogen monoxide generator capable of generating nitrogen monoxide efficiently and stably.SOLUTION: The provided nitrogen monoxide generator is furnished with a pair of discharge electrodes having a shape for forming a non-uniform electric field and an electric power source for impressing a high DC or AC voltage between the discharge electrodes. A discharge state between the discharge electrodes, furthermore, is maintained within a region exhibiting a negative resistance characteristic and is maintained so as to continuously stream, in-between the discharge electrodes, a current streaming as a result of the discharge.
