PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cultivating plants that can prevent contamination caused by bacteria in soil and root rot caused by excessive water while allowing the reuse of a medium, and a cultivation vessel used for the method.SOLUTION: A method for cultivating plants includes filling a cultivation vessel 12 with a medium 25 comprising grains 25a made of a water non-absorbing polymeric material, planting plants P in the medium, then closing a drain plug 21 of the cultivation vessel 12 to fill the cultivation vessel 12 with water W by a pump 15, and opening the drain plug 21 after the lapse of a predetermined time to drain water from the cultivation vessel 12, thus wetting the surfaces of the grains 25a in the medium 25 with water. When filling water, even the leaves are soaked in water once every several times.
