PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic modified clay mineral-based thickener/gelling agent which exhibits an excellent thickening/gelling ability to oils, to provide an oily gel composition using the same, to provide an organic modified clay mineral-based emulsifier which can exhibit excellent temporal stabilizing effects such as an effect for inhibiting the temporal coagulation/uniting of emulsified particles, when using a W/O emulsion, to provide a W/O emulsion using the emulsifier, to provide an organic modified clay mineral-based emulsifier which can exhibit a W/O emulsion stabilization effect even in a low viscosity, and also to provide a W/O emulsion using the emulsifier.SOLUTION: A sol composition contains an organic modified clay mineral having an average thickness of &le0.1 &mum, an average major axis of 0.5 to 50 &mum, and a platy particle structure. An oily gel composition comprises the sol composition and a nonionic surfactant.
