PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sucrose stearate having a high selectivity for monoester.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, a method for producing sucrose stearate comprises the steps of: preparing an aqueous solution containing sucrose and a basic catalyst and producing sucrose stearate by mixing the aqueous solution obtained in the preparation step, a fatty acid alkali metal salt, and a molten stearic acid ester together, followed by stirring and heating the mixture under reduced pressure. The step of producing sucrose stearate comprises a step of removing water from the mixture and a subsequent step of carrying out trans-esterification after that step.
