PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel starch decomposition product having low sweetness, low viscosity, refreshed sweetness with fast rising and eliminating, body-imparting effect, a good balance quality of taste without a foreign taste or an unfavorable taste, and its usage.SOLUTION: The starch decomposition product satisfies (1) the sugar content having a polymerization degree of 6 to 7/that having 4 to 5=0.75 to 1.25, (2) that having 14 or more is 5 wt.% or less, (3) that having 1 to 3 is 45 wt.% or less, (4) a degree of sweetness is 25 or less and (5) viscosity of a sugar solution having 70% solid content at 20°C is 1500 mPas or less. A taste quality improving agent including the starch decomposition product as active ingredient is provided. A food and drink including the starch decomposition product or a taste quality improving agent are provided.
