A clamp comprising first and second clamp portions 2, 4 in which one or both are moveable relative to one another to exert a clamping force on an object. The clamp comprises one or more strain sensors 10 secured to the clamp in a sensing region of the clamp that deforms in response to the clamping force. A signal from strain sensors 10 may be used to detect motion of a clamped object. The strain sensors may have variable resistance depending on the strain applied and can be connected in a Wheatstone bridge circuit. The device may comprise a motion sensor in the form of an accelerometer or gyroscope. The clamp may have a measurement sensor 8 configured to sense light, impedance, pressure or temperature and a clamp sensor comprising one or more of a pulse oximeter or pulse, glucose, impendence, plethysmography, temperature or pressure sensor. A measurement system comprising the clamp is also disclosed with a processor configured to receive a movement signal indicative of deformation of the clamp. The processer may be configured to receive measurement and movement signals and eliminate or reduce motion artefacts.
