The present invention generally relates to the promotion of the M1-type (macrophage M1 polarization) immune response by administration of a compound that modulates macrophage activation. The present invention relates to the use of antibodies capable of binding to CSF-1R for the regulation of macrophage activation. The invention also relates to a method for assessing the dose efficacy of an antibody capable of binding to CSF-1R in a patient by evaluating in vivo or in vitro activation of macrophages.
