Disclosed is a mechanism for locking a sterile adapter assembly (303) with an actuator assembly (305) in a robotic surgical system (100). The locking mechanism comprises at least one engaging lug (403) and at least one female guide (415) spaced apart from each other on the sterile adapter assembly (303), wherein the at least one engaging lug (403) has a cylindrical profile including grooves, and the at least one female guide (415) has a guiding slot. The locking mechanism further comprises at least one notch (409) and at least one male guide (429) spaced apart from each other on the actuator assembly (305), wherein the at least one notch (409) defines a recess (405), and the at least one male guide (429) has a protruding profile.
