PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing Dioscorea japonica extract containing a high content of diosgenin and moreover maintaining the content of the aglycone of spirostan saponin except diosgenin.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method comprising adding an extracting solvent into Dioscorea japonica containing 2 mass% or more of dioscin in a solid content to extract with the solvent, subsequently performing an acid treatment, and neutralizing to obtain the extract containing 5-20 mass% of diosgenin in the solid content and 0.2-5 mass% of the aglycone of spirostan saponin except diosgenin in the solid content.
