PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a culturing device optimum for culturing of a plant in a room of a usual home and resolving wasteful use of water. SOLUTION: This culturing device 1 cultures a plant S to be cultured by using a finely porous baked material 2 having a water absorbing force smaller than that of the roots of the cultured plant S and utilizing absorbed water held inside of the finely porous water absorbing baked material 2 by the roots of the plant S to culture the plants. The device also has a water tank 6 storing water and a water absorbing string 10 whose one side is dipped in water in the water tank 6 and the other end is connected to the finely porous baked material 2 and having a water absorbing force smaller than the finely porous baked material 2. The water tank 6 is hermetically closed and a stretching and contracting part 7 comprising a flexible material is provided at least a part of the water tank 6, and a water supplying pipe 9 whose one end is inserted into the water tank 6 is provided, and an open and closing device 11 communicating or closing a liquid path 14 of the water supplying pipe 9 by stretching or contracting of the part 7 of the water tank 6 is provided in the culturing device 1.
